Autumn Ember Days - Sept 17, 19, 20
(Read the full email from the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter
here.)
The four sets of Ember days, set as they are at the onset of the four natural seasons, call to mind the agrarian cycle of planting, tending, and harvesting. This is intentionally so, as Holy Mother Church provides her children these times to give thanks for the goods we have reaped, and to humbly seek the Divine assistance in the goods yet to be sown.
Ember Days follow an ancient practice of the church to pray for vocations to the priesthood. September 17, 19, and 20 are Ember Days of Autumn this year.
Abstinence from meat is obligatory for Ordinariate members this Friday, September 19. Please offer this sacrifice and prayer for our seminarians as they continue to respond to God's call.
Prayer for Embertide:
O ALMIGHTY God, look mercifully upon the world, redeemed by the blood of thy dear Son, and incline the hearts of all whom thou dost call to offer themselves for the sacred ministry of thy Church; that there may never be wanting a supply of fit persons to preach thy Word, and dispense thy holy Sacraments; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Congratulations to Will, Meredith,
Everest, Serena, and Ocean!
What a joyous occasion on Sunday to baptize Everest, Serena, and Ocean, and to confirm Will, Meredith, and Everest! We welcome them all into the Catholic Church and into our St. Edmund Campion family.
The Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham
Wednesday, September 24
Solemn Mass at 6pm followed by a Marian procession through the Village of Flat Rock
Please join us next Wednesday, September 24, for a Solemn Mass at 6pm in honor of Our Lady of Walsingham. Our choir has been working hard in order to provide some exceptional music for this special feast day - the William Byrd Mass for Three Voices and some additional pieces noted in the flyer below. William Byrd was an English Renaissance composer during the persecution of Catholics under Queen Elizabeth, so his masses were originally performed in homes in secret.
Following Mass we will have a Marian procession through the Village of Flat Rock, and then return to the church to enjoy festive drinks and desserts. We invite everyone to bring their favorite British (or other) baked good or dessert treat to share for this celebration.
The Cathedral seat of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter is the Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham in Houston, Tx.
NOTE: There will be no 12:10pm Mass Wednesday, Sept 24; just the 6pm Mass.

Pack a Box of Joy for a child in need – for children who wish for just one gift!
St. Edmund Campion is participating in the Boxes of Joy program this year. We have 25 boxes to fill and we will be distributing Boxes of Joy now through the first weekend of October. Give your family and friends the opportunity to share the joy of Christmas with others less fortunate. On each box, you can indicate the age group and male/female
designation. You will be provided with a list of appropriate items. There is a $9 handling fee
which may be given to Donna Curry, either cash or check made out to Cross Catholic Outreach. These boxes must be returned to St. Edmund the week of October 25 – November 2.
Thank you for sharing the joy of Christmas!
Prayer and Worship Resources
All copies of the Divine Worship Study Missal and Divine Worship Daily Office have been purchased. If there is additional interest, we can place another order for Study Missals and Divine Worship Daily Office books.
For our first order, the Study Missal was $105 and Daily Office was $95; this could change on future orders due to purchasing from the UK and conversion rates and overseas shipping costs fluctuating. Please contact Stephanie Butler at
wncord@gmail.com or 828-393-5775 if you are interested in ordering one or both of these books.
The Daily Office we are currently able to order is the Commonwealth edition. Catholic University of America is printing a US edition which is available for pre-order on their website. The expected publishing date is Dec 12, 2025 and the cost is $55. Pre-orders can be placed using this link:
