November is the month dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. “Purgatory” is the name given for the final purification of those bound for heaven. (Catechism 1030-1032).

All Souls Day Novena of Masses

Fr. Johnson will offer a Novena of Masses for the deceased from November 2 through November 11, 2024. Additionally, he will pray for the poor souls, including your loved ones, each day throughout November. An online form is included below - use commas to seperate names and select the total number of people you are listing. The customary offering for Mass intentions is $10 an intention, but is never required. Online requests will be written on an envelope, placed on the Altar at the All Soul's Requeim Mass and remain there for the month of November.

4. Indulgances

Visiting a Cemetery: An indulgence, applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory, is granted to the faithful, who devoutly visit a cemetery and pray, even if only mentally, for the departed. Typically the indulgence is plenary each day from November 1-8; on other days of the year, it is only a partial indulgence.

Visiting a Church on November 2: A plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory, is granted to the faithful, who on the day dedicated to the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed [November 2 {as well as on the Sunday preceding or following, and on All Saints' Day}] piously visit a church. In visiting the church it is required that one Our Father and the Creed be recited.

Indulgence Requirements: To acquire a plenary indulgence it is necessary also to fulfill the following three conditions: sacramental Confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer for the intention of the Holy Father while being detached from sin. It is appropriate that the sacramental Confession and especially Holy Communion and the prayer for the Pope's intentions take place on the same day that the indulgenced work is performed; but it is sufficient that these sacred rites and prayers be carried out within several days (about 20) before or after the indulgenced act. One sacramental Confession suffices for several plenary indulgences, but a separate Holy Communion and a separate prayer for the Holy Father's intentions are required for each plenary indulgence.

The condition of praying for the intention of the Holy Father is fully satisfied by reciting one Our Father and one Hail Mary. A plenary indulgence can be acquired only once in the course of the day.

Prayers for the Poor Souls in Purgatory

Lord Jesus, lovingly welcome into Your presence my deceased family, relatives and friends who have completed their journey on this earth, and have gone to their rest in the hope of rejoicing with you forever in heaven.

Source of all life and love, in Your infinite mercy, look favorably upon their goodness, and forgive any sins they may have committed, so they may enjoy for all eternity the great rewards You have promised to those who believe in You. Amen.

V. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.

R. And let the perpetual light shine upon them.

May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Due to the Hallowtide Triduum activities we will be taking a breather on Sunday Nov 3 from the normal social and education activities...

6. Wed, Nov 6 Daily Mass Time Changed to 12:45 pm

Father's has a Zoom meeting with the Bishop and Vicar General that necessitates moving Mass back. Confessions should start 20 mins before Mass and as always he can also hear confessions after Mass.

7. Christ the King Sunday (Nov 24)

To celebrate the sovereign reign of Jesus Christ, our 11am Mass will be even more glorious than usual. This is the last Sunday of the liturgical Year before Advent.

8. Hold Off on the Christmas Decorations!

The stores may be full of Christmas decorations, but remember Christmas decorations are for the Season of Christmas, which begins on the evening of December 24th. The four weeks prior are the penitential season of Advent. More to come on household prep for Advent and Christmas!

9. Sun Dec 1, 4pm Fr. Longenecker Preaching for St. Edmund Campion

The the Solemnity of St. Edmund Campion, on December 1, is our parish solemnity of title. Becaue the first Sunday of Advent this year is December 1, it is transferred to December 2. However, because it is a solemnity, celebration can begin at 4pm. To celebrate the feast, we will have a potluck following the 11am Mass, and Advent workshop during the afternoon, then we will begin our liturgical celebration at 4pm with a beautiful Choral Evensong Service. Preaching at the service is Fr. Dwight Longenecker, a well known convert priest who lived in England for over two decades. He has led pilgrimages to the holy places of the English martyrs, including St. Edmund Campion and St. Nicholas Owen. He will be preaching at Evensong, sharing his first hand knowledge of these two courageous saints. Please save the date and invite a friend!
